December is the busiest month of the year for Mayfair nightlife, and also the one that most rewards a plan. Mayfair nightlife in December 2026 runs from the first big work-party weekends through Christmas, a quieter stretch between the holidays, and New Year's Eve on the final Thursday. This guide takes the month week by week, with the dates that shape it and how to book around them.
Why December Is Different
November is the run-up, as we described in our guide to Mayfair nightlife in November. December is the month itself. Demand rises on every night the clubs open, not only on Fridays and Saturdays, and the people filling the rooms change from week to week: work parties early in the month, friends home for the holidays around Christmas, and visitors arriving for New Year's Eve at the end.
The dress codes, door policies and opening nights stay the same. What changes is how early the best tables go, how long the queues get at popular doors, and how much notice a group needs. A plan that would work on an ordinary October Saturday often falls short on a December one.
The First Two Weekends: Work Party Season
The weekends of Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December and Friday 11 and Saturday 12 December belong largely to work Christmas parties. Groups tend to start earlier in the evening with dinner or drinks, then move on to a club later, which means rooms can fill sooner than usual and tables for large groups are committed well in advance.
If you are organising a group night yourself, our guide to a Mayfair Christmas party at a club explains how group tables and private hire work, and the Christmas parties page is the quickest way to send us your date and numbers. For couples and small groups, a Thursday in early December is often an easier night than the weekend: several of the clubs we book open on Thursdays, and the crowd is less dominated by large office bookings.
The Last Weekend Before Christmas
Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December form the last full weekend before Christmas, and the Friday is traditionally one of the busiest nights of the year across London as offices close for the break. In Mayfair that usually means the most crowded doors of the month outside New Year's Eve.
Book this weekend as far ahead as you can, and arrive early if you are on a guestlist. If your group is flexible, the Wednesday or Thursday of that week can give you much of the festive atmosphere with less pressure on tables.
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day
The holidays fall awkwardly for clubbing in 2026. Christmas Eve is a Thursday and Christmas Day a Friday, so the usual start of the weekend coincides with the holiday itself. According to the gov.uk list of bank holidays, Boxing Day falls on Saturday 26 December this year, so the substitute bank holiday is Monday 28 December.
Clubs set their Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day plans individually and often late in the season, so do not assume a normal Thursday, Friday or Saturday schedule that week. Ask us for the specific night you have in mind and we will tell you which rooms are open and on what terms.
Between Christmas and New Year
The days between Boxing Day and New Year's Eve have a character of their own. Many people are on holiday, the offices are closed, and those still in town are often looking for a night out on dates that would normally be quiet. With the bank holiday on Monday 28 December, some groups treat Sunday 27 as the start of a long weekend.
For anyone who wants a December night without the work-party crush or New Year's Eve prices, this stretch can be good value. Opening nights vary more than usual, though, so check before you plan around a particular club.
Which Clubs Open on Which Nights
As of October 2026, from our venue listings, the main Mayfair and St James's rooms open on these nights in a normal week:
- Tape: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with Little Tape running as the after party on Fridays and Saturdays until 5:30am.
- Maddox: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, closing at 6am.
- 99 Regent Street (formerly the Cuckoo Club): Wednesday to Saturday, 11pm to 4am, entered from Swallow Street.
- Rumour (formerly Tabu): Wednesday to Saturday, 11pm to 4am.
- Dear Darling Mayfair: Thursday to Sunday, at 91 Jermyn Street in St James's.
- The Scotch of St James: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, walk-in only.
Just north of Oxford Circus, Selene in Fitzrovia opens Thursday to Sunday from 11pm to 4am. For a sense of December pricing on an ordinary night, tables at 99 Regent Street start from a £600 minimum spend, Tape from £750 and Maddox from £1,000, as of October 2026. Holiday nights can carry different terms, so confirm the figure for your date when you book.
New Year's Eve on a Thursday
New Year's Eve 2026 falls on Thursday 31 December. Thursday is not one of Tape's or Cirque le Soir's usual nights, but both are open on New Year's Eve this year. On the night the guestlist is limited, and the best way in is a table. New Year's Eve tables are secured with a deposit, usually 20% to 50% of the minimum spend depending on the venue.
Prices, line-ups and themes for the night had not been announced as of October 2026. Our guide to New Year's Eve tables in Mayfair is updated as clubs confirm their plans, and it is the place to start if you want to compare rooms.
What to Wear in December
The dress codes do not change for the season, but the weather does. Expect cold, often wet nights, longer cloakroom queues at closing time, and a walk between dinner and the club in heels or good shoes. Our guide to what to wear clubbing in London in winter covers coats, evening boots and the other practical details that matter more in December than at any other time of year.
