Mayfair Christmas Party at a Club: Tables and Private Hire for Groups

A Mayfair Christmas party at a club comes down to one decision: book tables on a normal club night, or hire a room for your group alone. This guide explains how each works for office and group Christmas parties in Mayfair, the group sizes each suits, the normal-night minimum spends at the clubs we book, and how far ahead December needs planning.
It is written for whoever has been handed the work Christmas party, from a team of ten to a company of eighty. Our Christmas parties page is where to send your date and headcount.
Tables or Private Hire: Which One Your Group Needs
A table booking puts your group at reserved tables inside the club on a normal night, with the rest of the crowd around you. You get guaranteed entry for the names on the booking, bottle service and the atmosphere of a full room. On our Christmas party enquiries, tables suit groups of roughly 5 to 20, and bigger groups can take two or three neighbouring tables.
Private hire gives your group a space to itself: a separate room, a floor, or the whole venue. You set the start time, the music brief and the guest list, and nobody else comes in. As a rule of thumb, it starts to make sense from around 50 guests, and it is the only format where a company can bring partners, run speeches or brand the room.
If you have under 20 people, no need to start before the club opens and no objection to sharing the room, book tables.
How a Table Booking Works for an Office Party
Mayfair clubs do not charge for the table itself. Each table carries a minimum spend: the amount your group commits to spend on drinks over the night, ordered from the club's menu. Our guide to how a club minimum spend works covers the detail.
For an office group:
- Send the full name list in advance. Everyone on it goes in with the booking, which removes the door risk a large, mostly male group faces.
- Arrive together, and early. A group that drifts in over two hours loses the best part of the night.
- Split the group by budget, not by team. A £1,000 minimum shared by eight people is £125 a head; the same minimum across fifteen is under £70. Size the table to the group.
How Private Hire Works in Mayfair
Private hire is quoted per event, not from a price list. The venue prices the night, the date, the space, the hours and the headcount, and it is often set as a minimum spend on food and drink rather than a flat room fee. Festive packages, set menus and Christmas programmes are not published by the clubs: they are on request, and we ask the venue for them with your date and numbers.
Two Mayfair spaces come up most often in our private hire enquiries:
- Little Tape inside the Tape building on Hanover Square, a self-contained room for up to 140 guests standing with its own bar. Its private hire minimum varies by day and time.
- Rumour on Dover Street (formerly Tabu), a 200-capacity room, small by Mayfair standards, which makes a buyout realistic for a mid-sized company.
99 Regent Street (formerly the Cuckoo Club) has two floors of around 200 each, and Mistress of Mayfair takes corporate enquiries too. See our private hire page for more.
Minimum Spends at the Mayfair Clubs We Book
These are normal-night table minimums from our own venue listings, as of October 2026. They are starting points for a standard table on an ordinary night, not Christmas prices: December party nights and any special events are quoted when you enquire, and can be higher.
| Club | Area | Normal nights | Table minimum from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tape London | Hanover Square | Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun | £1,000 (VIP £2,000) |
| Maddox Club | Mill Street | Thu, Fri, Sat | £1,000 (VIP £2,000) |
| Cirque le Soir | Ganton Street, Carnaby | Mon, Wed, Fri, Sat | £1,000 (VIP £2,000) |
| The London Reign | Piccadilly | Tue, Thu, Fri, Sat | £1,000 (VIP £2,000) |
| Dear Darling | Jermyn Street | Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun | One bottle upstairs; £1,500 downstairs |
| Scotch of St James | Masons Yard | Thu, Fri, Sat | £1,000 (booths £2,000) |
| The Box | Walker's Court, Soho | Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat | £1,000 |
| Selene | Winsley Street | Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun | £1,000 (VIP £2,000) |
| Mistress of Mayfair | St James's Street | Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun | £1,000 |
| Rumour (formerly Tabu) | Dover Street | Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat | £1,000 |
| 99 Regent Street (formerly Cuckoo Club) | Regent Street | Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat | £600 |
| Itzel (formerly Funky Buddha) | Berkeley Street | Thu, Fri, Sat | £600 |
Cirque le Soir and The Box sit just across Regent Street in Soho and Selene is by Oxford Circus, all a short walk from a Mayfair dinner. For a tighter budget, 99 Regent Street and Itzel start lowest, and Itzel's three rooms play different music, so a mixed office need not agree on one sound.
Which December Nights to Choose, and How Far Ahead
Christmas party season runs through the first three weeks of December, and Thursdays and Fridays are the busiest nights, because that is when offices go out.
- Thursday keeps more of the list open to you: Maddox, Reign, Scotch, Dear Darling, The Box, Selene, Mistress of Mayfair, Rumour, 99 Regent Street and Itzel all normally open. Tape and Cirque le Soir do not.
- Friday has every club open and the most competition for tables.
- A Wednesday or an early-December date is the easiest way to secure a buyout.
Our guidance for peak dates is at least 4 to 6 weeks for tables and 2 to 3 months for full venue hire: for a December Thursday or Friday, ask in October or early November. Clubs confirm December programmes late, so we check the night is running as normal before anything is confirmed.
Deposits, Payment and the £150 Question
On a normal night, most clubs need no deposit to hold a table. Deposits come in for special-event nights and for private hire, and on special events a deposit is usually non-refundable if you cancel. December party dates can fall into either category, so we tell you the deposit, the payment terms and the cancellation position before you commit, not after.
If the company is paying, HMRC's rules on annual staff parties exempt an annual event such as a Christmas party from tax and reporting when it is open to all employees and costs £150 or less per person. A £1,000 table split across eight people sits under that line; a VIP table for a small team may not. Your accountant will know how it applies to you.
Dress Code for a Club Christmas Party
Mayfair clubs keep their normal dress code in December: smart and elegant, heels for women at most rooms, smart shoes for men. Festive touches are fine, but fancy dress and novelty Christmas jumpers generally will not pass a Mayfair door. Share the code with the whole group a week before; our guide to what to wear clubbing in winter covers coats and the cloakroom.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many people do you need to hire a Mayfair club privately?
There is no fixed minimum, but private hire usually makes sense from around 50 guests. Below that, two or three neighbouring tables give a group its own space.
How much is a Christmas party table at a Mayfair club?
Normal-night table minimums at the clubs we book start from £600 at 99 Regent Street and Itzel and £1,000 at most others, as of October 2026. December party nights and special events are quoted on request and can be higher.
When should we book a work Christmas party at a club?
For a Thursday or Friday in the first three weeks of December, ask in October or early November. Tables need at least 4 to 6 weeks on peak dates and full venue hire 2 to 3 months.
Do Mayfair clubs need a deposit for a Christmas party?
A normal-night table usually needs no deposit. Private hire and special-event nights do, and a special-event deposit is usually non-refundable on cancellation, so confirm the terms before you commit.
