Mayfair Nightlife in November: From Halloween to Christmas

November is the month Mayfair nightlife changes direction. Halloween closes October on a Saturday this year, the Christmas lights go on across the West End in the first fortnight, and by the last weekend of the month the district is already behaving like December. This guide covers what actually shifts in Mayfair through November 2026, week by week, and how to plan a night around it.
Why November Is Its Own Month
It is tempting to treat November as a gap between two big occasions, Halloween at one end and the festive season at the other. In Mayfair it is better understood as the run-up. The September return we described in our piece on how the season restarts after August builds through October, and November is where that momentum meets the first wave of Christmas plans.
The practical result is that November contains two quite different months. The first half still feels like late autumn: regulars, ordinary weekends, sensible notice. The second half increasingly belongs to groups, work parties and early celebrations. Knowing which half you are planning for is most of the battle.
The First Weekend: After Halloween
Halloween falls on Saturday 31 October in 2026, so the big costume weekend is the last weekend of October rather than the first of November. That matters for planning. The weekend of 6 and 7 November is the first one after the Halloween peak, and it usually reads as a reset: the rooms are full of regulars again rather than one-night visitors, and the doors return to their normal setting.
For anyone who wants a representative Mayfair Friday or Saturday without the seasonal crush, that first full November weekend is one of the better windows left in the year.
The Lights Go On
The most visible change in early November is outside the clubs. According to Time Out's guide to London's 2026 Christmas lights, the Regent Street angels switch on on Thursday 5 November and the Bond Street display follows on Thursday 12 November. Both streets frame the district: Regent Street runs along Mayfair's eastern edge, and Bond Street cuts straight through it.
For a night out, the lights change the shape of the early evening more than the late one. Dinner reservations in and around Mayfair tighten once the displays are on, because shoppers and sightseers stay in the area for longer. If your plan is dinner first and a club afterwards, book the restaurant earlier than you would in October, and leave a little more time to walk between the two.
Mid-Month: The Last Easy Weekends
The weekends of 13 to 14 and 20 to 21 November sit in a useful position. The festive atmosphere has started, the streets are lit, and yet the heaviest wave of work Christmas parties has not fully arrived. For couples, small groups and anyone celebrating a birthday, this is often the most comfortable point of the autumn to book a table on a Friday or Saturday.
It is also the point to settle December plans. Groups who wait until the end of the month to arrange a Christmas night tend to find the best Fridays and Saturdays already committed. Our guide to a Mayfair Christmas party at a club explains how group tables and private hire work if you are organising something larger.
The Last Weekend: December Arrives Early
By the weekend of 27 and 28 November, the district is effectively in festive mode. Work parties start earlier in the evening and spill into clubs later, Thursdays begin to carry Friday energy, and the most popular rooms fill sooner than they did a fortnight before. It is not yet the full December scramble, but it is close.
Two adjustments help. Reserve further ahead than you did earlier in the month, and consider a Thursday if your group is flexible. Several of the clubs we book are open on Thursdays, which spreads the demand more evenly than a Saturday-only plan.
Which Clubs Are Open on Which Nights
As of October 2026, from our venue listings, the main Mayfair and St James's rooms open on these nights:
- Tape: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with Little Tape running as the after party on Fridays and Saturdays.
- Maddox: Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
- 99 Regent Street (formerly the Cuckoo Club): Wednesday to Saturday, entered from Swallow Street.
- Rumour (formerly Tabu): Wednesday to Saturday.
- Dear Darling: Thursday to Sunday, at 91 Jermyn Street in St James's.
- Mistress of Mayfair: Thursday to Sunday, at 48 St James's Street.
- Scotch of St James: Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Just north of Oxford Circus, Selene in Fitzrovia opens Thursday to Sunday from 11pm to 4am. For a sense of table pricing, Mistress of Mayfair quotes minimum spends from £500 on Thursdays and Sundays, £750 on Fridays and £1,000 on Saturdays, as of October 2026. Seasonal nights later in the year can carry different terms, so confirm the figure for your date when you book.
What to Wear as the Weather Turns
November is the month the coat becomes unavoidable, and in Mayfair that brings its own small logistics: cloakroom queues at closing time, heels on wet pavements, and the walk between dinner and the club. The dress codes themselves do not change with the season, but the practical side of dressing for them does. Our guide to what to wear clubbing in London in winter covers the details, from evening boots to coats that are worth checking.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mayfair busy in November?
Yes, and increasingly so as the month goes on. The first half of November runs at normal autumn levels, while the last weekend is close to December busy as Christmas parties and early celebrations begin.
When do the Christmas lights go on near Mayfair in 2026?
According to Time Out, Regent Street switches on on Thursday 5 November 2026 and Bond Street on Thursday 12 November 2026. Both are on the edge of, or inside, Mayfair.
When should I book a table for a Saturday in late November?
Earlier than you would in October. For the last two weekends of November, booking at least a week or two ahead is sensible for popular rooms, and further ahead for larger groups.
Is November a good time to book December nights?
Yes. Mid-November is when many groups settle their December plans, so booking a Christmas night out then gives you a wider choice of clubs and dates than waiting until December itself.
November rewards a little foresight: the first half for easy, representative nights, the second half for anyone who plans ahead. Tell us the date, the group and the kind of room you want, and we will arrange the table and the door. Message us on WhatsApp and we will take it from there.
