Funky Buddha Has Closed — Itzel Has Opened in Its Place

Last updated: 5 October 2026
Funky Buddha has closed. The address is not empty — Itzel has opened in the same room at 15 Berkeley Street, and it is open now. If you came here because you were trying to book Funky Buddha, this is what you need to know.
The Short Version
Same building, same street, new club. Itzel runs Thursday to Saturday, 11pm until 3:30am, holds around 500 people across three rooms, and takes table bookings from £600 minimum spend. Its guestlist works for mixed groups. It is not a rebrand of Funky Buddha and it is not run as a continuation of it — it is a different venue in the same space.
What Is Actually Different
Funky Buddha was a hip hop and RnB room with a long history and a loyal weekend crowd. Itzel is a three-room venue: hip hop and eclectic in the Main Room, house in the Moon Room, and a Mexican kitchen called Casa de Itzel running late.
The practical consequences are worth being plain about. You now have a house floor you did not have before, and food you did not have before. The hip hop is still there, but it sits alongside programming that moves more. If what you loved about Funky Buddha was that it was one room playing one thing all night, the honest answer is that Itzel is not that.
What Is the Same
The address, the postcode and the walk from Green Park. Thursday to Saturday, same as Funky Buddha ran. A Mayfair door with a real dress code. And the fundamental proposition — a Berkeley Street club where a table gets you a room, a host and no queue — is unchanged.
Minimum spends are lower than people expect from a venue this size, starting at £600. For groups who used to book Funky Buddha tables, that is likely to be a familiar or better figure.
Why Mayfair Rooms Change Hands
This address has now been three clubs. Luxx became Funky Buddha, which has become Itzel. That is not a sign of anything going wrong — it is how this postcode works. Rents are high, leases are finite, and a club's commercial life is usually shorter than its reputation. Tabu on Dover Street became Rumour in the same period. Libertine and LIO have gone.
The rooms outlast the names on them, and the practical lesson for anyone planning a night is to check before you book rather than relying on a listing from last year.
If Funky Buddha Was Your Regular
Itzel is the closest thing to a like-for-like replacement in the simplest sense: it is the same room, on the same nights, with a comparable door. If what you valued was the address and the Berkeley Street night out, you will recognise it.
If what you actually valued was the hip hop and RnB programming specifically, there are Mayfair rooms built around that sound more exclusively, and we would point you to one of those rather than insist on the new tenant. Tell us what kept you going back and we will match it properly instead of selling you the nearest thing.
What About the Old Pages?
We have left our Funky Buddha pages up rather than deleting them. They are still useful history, people still search for the name, and the pages now carry a notice pointing here. The same is true of our Luxx pages, which predate Funky Buddha.
If you find something elsewhere online suggesting Funky Buddha is still trading, it is out of date. The address is live and busy; the club in it is Itzel.
Getting In
Guestlist at Itzel works for mixed groups, which is not true at every Mayfair door of this size and makes it one of the easier venues in the area to organise a group around. A door charge applies and varies by night, by event and by what time you arrive — earlier is cheaper.
Dress code is "elegance with edge": no sportswear, hoodies, shorts or activewear. Entry is strictly 18+ and you need physical photographic ID.
