99 Regent Street Review: Inside the Two-Floor Club in the Old Cuckoo Space

Last updated: 6 October 2026
99 Regent Street — styled NinetyNine — is the new club at an address that has been doing this since 1954. It occupies the floor the Cuckoo Club ran for years, and it is run by the people who were behind that chapter. Here is what it actually is, who it suits, and the one rule that catches more groups than anything else.
Two Floors, Two Sounds
The single most useful fact: 99 runs two genuinely separate rooms. Upstairs is hip hop and open format, read to the crowd rather than locked to one lane. Downstairs is house. Around 200 people per floor, so roughly 400 across the venue when both are running.
Plenty of clubs claim two floors and deliver one dancefloor plus an overflow bar. That is not what is happening here — these are two rooms with two programmes. For a group that cannot agree on a sound, that is the whole argument for the place.
Which Floors Run When
This is the detail people miss, so it is worth stating plainly: Wednesday and Thursday only one floor is open. Friday and Saturday both are.
If you are coming specifically for the house room, that means a weekend. If you want the venue at its calmest and a table at short notice, midweek is the better call. Ask us before you commit to a midweek date and we will tell you which room is actually running.
The Room Upstairs
It is built around a central run of tables facing the DJ, with banquettes down both walls and a long bar along one side. The table numbering is a nod to the address — the booths nearest the DJ are 95 to 99, then the floor numbers run through the teens, twenties and thirties.
Where you sit changes the night more than it does in a bigger room. The 90s booths put you at the DJ end; the wall banquettes give you the room in front of you and a bit more space to talk. Say which you would rather have when you book and we will ask for it.
An Address With Form
This is not a new venue pretending to have history. 99 Regent Street has been a nightlife address since 1954, when it housed Al Burnett’s Stork Club — a room that drew Prime Minister Harold Macmillan, the Cabinet minister John Profumo, and Hollywood in the shape of Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Ava Gardner.
The Cuckoo Club followed and ran the floor for years. Its founders went their separate ways when that ended, and have reunited to open 99 on the same floor. Whatever you think of nightlife branding, the lineage here is real.
The Door Is 19+, Not 18+
Read that twice. Almost every London club is 18+; 99 is nineteen. It is one year, and it is the single most common reason a group turns up and someone does not get in.
Check the youngest person in your group before you make plans, and bring photographic ID. This is not a rule anyone will bend for you at midnight on Regent Street.
Dress Code
Elegant, and enforced. This is an upscale room positioned deliberately against the direction London nightlife has drifted — the operators are explicit that they built it as an answer to a city that moved towards members’ clubs and listening bars. The door is part of that proposition rather than an afterthought.
Tables
Minimum spends start from £600, which is reasonable for a room of this standing and makes a table realistic for a group of six or eight. That figure is bar spend, not a fee, and the reservation covers entry for your group. Our side costs you nothing — no booking fee, no commission.
What We Book It For
Groups split between hip hop and house, birthdays of eight to fifteen who want an upscale room without a warehouse, and anyone who found the previous chapter at this address too familiar and wants to see what the same people built next.
What suits it less: anyone under nineteen, groups wanting a relaxed door, and midweek visitors whose heart is set on the house floor. Those are scheduling and policy facts rather than failings.
