77 London Dress Code: What “Smart” Means at a Music-Led Door

Last updated: 6 October 2026

The dress code at 77 is smart. That word does a lot of different work depending on which London venue is using it, so here is what it means at this one — and why it is a softer filter than the Mayfair rooms a few streets away.

A Music Door, Not a Fashion Door

This is the useful distinction. At the strictest Mayfair clubs the door is part of the curation: it is deciding what the room looks like, and what you are wearing is a proxy for whether you belong in it.

77 is a house and techno room built around a central DJ booth, programming names that usually play much bigger venues. The filter it actually cares about is whether you came for the music. The dress code exists, it is applied, but it is not the point of the evening.

What That Means in Practice

Look put together. Not sportswear, not gym kit, not what you wore to the pub. Beyond that there is more latitude here than at a Berkeley Street or Dover Street door — this is not a room where you need a blazer to be taken seriously.

Considered trainers with an otherwise sharp outfit generally read fine at a music-led venue in a way they would not at the strictest Mayfair doors. Running trainers and anything obviously athletic still will not.

Where 77 Sits on the Spectrum

Worth placing rather than treating in isolation. KOKO in Camden publishes no dress code at all; the filter is entirely whether you came for the show. At the other end, the strictest Mayfair rooms treat the door as part of the product.

77 sits between the two and closer to the music end. If your reference point is a Mayfair table club, you can relax slightly. If it is a warehouse, dress up.

What Actually Decides Entry

Less than you would think, honestly. Entry is ticketed and open to men and women, so there is no door policy quietly filtering your group out before anyone looks at your shoes.

Two nights a week is the real constraint. Friday and Saturday is the whole calendar, and a date with a headline booking sells out — so sort the ticket or the table first, then think about the outfit.

Age

18+, with ID checked. Standard for London, and worth having on you rather than in the car.

Practical Notes

It is one room, mostly standing, running until 4am. Dress for a long night on your feet rather than for the photos at the start of it. The room warms up once it fills, so anything heavy is going to the cloakroom — and the cloakroom queue at 4am is a real cost in time.

Marylebone is also a considerably calmer place to leave at 4am than Soho, which is worth something at the end of a long night.

If You Have a Table

A table does not relax the dress code. What it removes is uncertainty at the door — your group is expected and your spot is held. For a mixed group it is also the only way in, so the question of being assessed on the pavement does not arise.
